Reading time – Penny the Postie

I’m very lucky that my passion for books and reading has been passed onto Simba who has a book case overflowing with books, its at the point of collapse, literally. But I’m a sucker for books and wonderful children’s stories so when we were offered the chance to review Penny the Postie I couldn’t say no!

Now having a teacher for a Mum I’m quite aware of stories and what messages they could be sending out to children, now when I discovered this was a story about Pirates I wasn’t hugely enamoured it has to be said. I’m not a particular fan of pirates and the fighting that is normally associated with them. However this story surprised me. It has a great deal of themes that it explores throughout the book including bullying, imagination, journeys, discovery, doing a job and others.

It is the right length for Simba at the moment and we had a great deal of fun reading it through and discussing what we could see in the pictures which are beautifully illustrated. And at the back you even get a set of souvenir special edition stamps which are just stunning and I refuse to use them! They look too gorgeous!

I’ve got to say I was pleasantly surprised when we read this as I had heard a few negative reviews of it but this Mummy and her 4year old loved it and are having great fun reading it most evenings.

We have very kindly been given the chance for three of my readers to win copies of the book and so to be in with a chance to win all you have to do is leave a comment in the box below telling me your little ones favourite book to read together.
